Colorado Trip Part Two

August 3rd, 2023 by Brom Taulborg

After Cripple Creek, we went to Grand Lake, where we visited Rocky Mountain National Park several times. Here the first few nights of our stay was very buggy, but then on our last 2-3 days, the bugs had completely vanished. Also, we got to go paddle boarding on Grand Lake on our new paddleboard a few times.

Here is a list of all of the hikes and activities we did there:

  • Alpine Visitor Center - Rocky Mountain National Park
  • Adams Falls Trail
  • Backpacking Trip to Dutch Town Campsite (section TBD for this post)

Alpine Visitor Center - Rocky Mountain National Park

Our first activity at Grand Lake was going to the Alpine Visitor Center, which is at an altitude of 11,796' above sea level, making it the highest visitor center in the US National Park system! Here we started to do Marmot Point Trail, by hiking about a mile down Trail Ridge Road, and we were just starting to hike the trail when a rain storm hit us, so we decided to go back up to the visitor center. Even though we weren't able to go up to Marmot Point, Trail Ridge Road and Alpine Visitor Center still had amazing views.

Adams Falls Trail

Our second hike at Grand Lake was Adams Falls Trail. This trail was a little over a half mile roundtrip going to Adams Falls viewpoint and then we continued about a quarter of a mile down going to the base of Adams Falls and the east inlet of Grand Lake where we hung out for about 20 minutes.
