Colorado Trip Part Five

November 26th, 2023 by Brom Taulborg

After Durango we went to Crested Butte. While we were here, we did three hikes and two bike rides in the area, my first two bike rides in almost two months.

  • Carbon Trail to Green Lake (Hike)
  • Snodgrass Mountain Trail (Hike)
  • Upper Lower Loop via Budd's Trail (Hike) - No section for this post
  • Lower Loop Trail (Bike Ride) - No section for this post
  • Lupine and Gunsight Trails via Crested Butte Bike Path (Bike Ride) - No section for this post

Carbon Trail to Green Lake (Hike)

Our first hike at Crested Butte was Carbon Trail to Green Lake. This trail, the first 50-75% (1.5 to 2 miles) of it is walking up a super rocky and steep "road". However, once you got off that, there were amazing views of several mountains. We then continued to Green Lake, where we were rewarded views of the surrounding mountains from the lake. Overall, I probably wouldn't do it again, mainly due to the first 50-75% of the trail.

Snodgrass Mountain Trail (Hike)

Our next hike here at Crested Butte was Snodgrass Mountain. This hike was up near Mt. Crested Butte/Crested Butte Ski Resort giving amazing views of the surrounding area. We have done this hike once before, back in 2021, although in the two years we haven't been here, not much as changed other than a ton of construction in the area. The only problem with this hike is while you get amazing views on the way up/down, there is no real view at the summit other than a glimpse through the trees. Overall, in a few years, I would probably want to do it again.
